Speaking of awesome movies, I thought of this thread because I have three soundtracks in my top 100 albums: Blade Runner, Star Wars, and 1492. Like a bunch of other people here, I was on the Twin Peaks train (was very much the show of choice around these parts for awhile, can't say if that's still the case), but it's left a big impact on me, had a tendency to send shivers down my spine from the moment I heard it.
I do have a (massively outdated admittedly) soundtrack chart from my younger days, but a number of albums on that chart have no doubt left a huge impact on me still to this day, be they original recordings or just compilations of tracks that acted as gateways into genres I would otherwise have passed over for the most part.
I was about all things Nintendo when I was younger (still love their shit still anyway), but this got serious serious playtime before I ever came across any 'proper' albums (i.e. when I started spending all my savings on the likes of Nirvana, Oasis and Led Zeppelin CD's), still holds up great and I have the copy back home, no idea where I actually got this as a kid.
Another popular show around these parts and one of the best ever of course, there's a serious mix of tunes in there across a whole series of genres, still listen to this every so often when cravings kick in.
Spent a summer in the rural west of Ireland working on my undergrad thesis with essentially only this boxset on an old iPod, no phone reception, no internet, just me in mountains and bogs for hours each day with this as my only company. Good times.
My kickstarter into punk, given the current coronavirus situation, this game has been dug out again and is getting serious playtime. Still got it.
Big fan of a few others, like the aforementioned Blade Runner, a bunch of various spaghetti westerns which I must add (grew up around horses and my dad has this crazy VCR collection of westerns) and a smattering of others. _________________

And this is a solid idea for a thread. Can't believe we haven't done it before. Anything by Badalamenti, Morricone, Desplat, Herrmann or Hisaishi is always top-notch. Video game soundtracks are getting scary good too.
12 Monkeys score by Paul Buckmaster gets a bit overlooked, but it's one of my faves. Of course, Howard Shore's LOTR score is among the best ever, as well as Pirates of the Caribbean scores (by Klaus Badelt and Hans Zimmer).
As far as usage of music in movies (so the whole soundtrack) goes, some of my faves are Trainspotting, Drive, Vanilla Sky, Baby Driver, Apocalypse Now, Pulp Fiction, Space Jam and last year's Waves. Singles is also a great collection of grunge tracks. Some musicians like Nick Cave, Trent Reznor, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Johnny Greenwood have produced some incredible scores. _________________ Overall chart Fake overall chart
