For me, this is much more than a Greatest Hits album. I remember just how I felt when I first saw this album when I was a kid. I was mesmerised by the album cover and felt just as happy when I got it, as when I was when I got Stadium Arcadium the day it came out. I could also justify why this album is so much more than what it appears to be by writing that the band worked hard to include songs that encompassed their careers up to that point, as well as clearly working hard on the art direction. This album also gives a home to Soul to Squeeze, one of the band's greatest achievements, and the band even recorded many songs for this greatest hits album, two of which appear on here (Fortune Faded and Save the Population are hypnotic), which means that they took the album almost as seriously as a studio album. Plus this album flows so well, so you can tell so much thought and energy was put into making this album.
Masterpiece
I originally had this on 8 Track Tape and would listen to it, driving by livestock farms in Sonoma County, on the way to see a girlfriend at a beach town on the northern tip of Marin County.
2011 Remaster sounds so much better 👏
