Mingus At Monterey by Charles Mingus
Read about this album and couldn't find it on streaming, so picked up a physical copy and was surprised it wasn't in BEA's database yet. This is Mingus at his best, the whole performance is awesome, highlighted by an extended medley of Duke Ellington standards which are performed in such an unbelievable way that only Mingus could do. Not necessarily recording at its best though. It is a live outdoor performance recorded in 1964, and to my knowledge there hasn't been a remastered version yet. I think in this case, this is a recording that could stand to be improved by a remaster. _________________ 51 Washington, D.C. albums!
