Your suggestions please for albums where you only play one side - because it's great, while the other side is awful.

My nominations:

Band on the Run - Wings: only every play the majestic side 1

June 1 1974 - Ayers, Cales, Nico, Eno: only ever play the exquisite Kevin Ayers side (side 2); hideous stuff from Eno, Cale & Nico on side 1.

This is an artist that I actually love, but over and over again he made albums with one great side with all great songs and another side with songs that I never want to hear. Either he made the one side with songs that he knew everyone would like, and the other side with songs that he really liked himself but wasn't sure everyone else would. Maybe the kind of songs he'd rather be doing. Or where he thought he was stretching himself.

Pretty uncommon phenomenon for me.

Although the "other side" isn't awful, there are a number of Rush albums I'm more likely to listen to one side than the other, namely 2112, Caress of Steel, and Hemispheres.

Two albums that have far better side ones than side twos:
The Cult: Sonic Temple
Kansas: Freaks of Nature

One Album that has a far better side two than side one:
Triumph: Thunder Seven

I gotta listen to the whole thing.

On side one, there's no way I'm passing on Sitting, Angelsea, and Can't Keep it In, and there's no reason to duck the other two cuts either. On side two, there's no way I'm passing on 18th Avenue (my all time favorite Cat tune), Freezing Steel, and Ruins, while there's also no need to lift the needle on the other two tunes as well.

That one works for me all the way through and while there are songs I like less than others, they are evenly split across the two sides.

The first side I can't get enough of, second side no matter how many times I listen to the songs, they never ever kick in for me. 18th Avenue comes closest. While the entire first side is just splendid. The songs on the second side just wander all over the place. But they never get anywhere.

I used to kind of like that Joe Jackson Big World. Haven't heard it so long that I can't even remember all of it. I used to also love his Mike's Murder soundtrack. That was one of his best albums. I don't know why but I just liked it.
