Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.8/100, a mean average of 70.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 71.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.5.

I don't understand the accolades of the title track. Basically a narrated story over a backdrop of a repetitive tune. It's not good. Or bad. It just plods along. The remaining 6 tracks aren't bad though. Studio tracks, short, part folk, part folk blues. For me, it's them that help save the album as a whole.

This is such an underrated album. Besides the obvious masterpiece that is the title track, the rest of the album also makes for a great listen. Not a single bad song on here.

Hey in the day this was some hip stuff. Unfortunately the bit about dumping trash is pretty un-cool nowadays. He should have been arrested and fined. That said, he has perfect comic timing and it is a funny bit. The other half of the record is listenable with a couple of stand out tracks,

When I had a late-night radio show, I could put on Alice's Restaurant, run down the hall to use the bathroom, and be back with plenty of time. Nobody tells a tongue-in-cheek yet politically biting yarn like Arlo. Don't overlook the Motorcycle Song either.

The title track is a masterpiece. Sadly, the rest of the album doesn't stand out too much. Ring-Around-a-Rosy Rag and The Motorcyle Song are pretty great tho.
