This album keeps growing on me as the years go by. I love all the Sonic Youth phases, but the early no wave Sonic Youth is probably my favourite sonically. Even if the later alternative albums had better songwriting. EVOL is the turning point, and an almost perfect marriage of the styles. Sure, it's not Daydream Nation in terms of song quality, but I'd argue it sounds cooler. _________________ Overall chart Fake overall chart
This album is an essential component of their catalog. Still a top 3 SY record after all these years for me. The way they blend aggressive sounds and song structures on this album is totally avant garde and just beyond the realms of what other music was going for around this time. A timeless classic.
