I'm not a massive fan of Genesis, but I still think their music is dope. This album is one of my favorites by them.

Continuing the theme of long, progressive (or as Gowi would say "pretentious") songs, Supper's Ready is top 10 songs of all time. As an album though Selling England is better. For some reason I'm really drawn to Gabriel's half-funny half-nonsensical ramblings on those early Genesis albums. Distinctly British.

Genesis is my favorite band, and this is the first album that drew me in. Very silly, intense, dark, and beautiful moments all mixed together to contribute to what feels like an out-of-body listening experience. The opening chords and staccato rhythms of Watcher of the Skies are very hypnotic and compelling, even though you can tell the words were awkwardly shoehorned into the track (the band members tell a funny story about this in an interview about the album). Time Table is a mellow and pretty piano based track, Get 'em Out by Friday is a bit awkward but impressive and good fun (much like Battle of Epping Forest). Can Utility and The Coastliners is quite atmospheric and shows the band gelling well together in the second half. Horizons is a nice little classical guitar piece based on a Bach cello prelude. Of course, the second half of the album is taken up by one of the most adventurous and wonderful songs of all time. I think for a 23 minute complicated epic rock piece, Supper's Ready is about as accessible and engaging as it gets.

Break through album for the band which is excellent. Watcher of the Skies & the epic Supper's Ready. They followed up w/ 3 studio masterpiece's; Selling England By The Pound, The Lamb Lies down on Broadway & A trick of the Tail.
