1970s: Nico, John Fahey

Not a criticism, just an observation...
Interesting that you place Fahey in the 70s (I love Fare Forward and America, but he feels more like a 60s artist based on just how much he released in that decade.)

I am by no means an authority on this type of stuff, especially with older decades, but what the heck, here goes:

1950s Miles Davis
1960s The Beach Boys
1970s Marvin Gaye
1980s Madonna*
1990s Gas
2000s The Avalanches, The Knife, Lindstrøm, Japandroids*
2010s Janelle Monae, Cut Copy*, M83*, Daft Punk*, The Field*

* indicates artists with albums from more than one decade that I really love.

Apart from Ariel Pink these choices seem about right Smile They are all fantastic in their own way.

I'll just insert Metallica and Iron Maiden for the 80s. Wink Anyway, you have at least one awesome band in each decade until the current one. Smile
