I guess continuing with the look back of the decade... looking now a few years ago to your top 5 of 2011. I think somewhat of an unfairly derided year by some, perhaps cause there were a lot of dissapointing or just plain divisive follow-up records from a lot of the big "buzz" bands of the time. Maybe not the deepest year, but a lot of the best albums were stellar anyway. And I can't hate a year that may have my favorite album of all time. Should be a year where there's a lot of variety when it comes to people's personal favorites. Anyways...

Okay top 5

The Smile Sessions by The Beach Boys

I have already stated elsewhere on this site why I disagree with those who think this can not be labeled a "2011 album". It is.

Let England Shake by P.J. Harvey

PJ at possibly her most "classic", totally satisfying synthesis of all the aspects of her career. The anger's here, the finesse and post-medieval folkiness too. The very weak (for PJ anyway) White Chalk had a purpose, finally.

Wolfroy Goes To Town by Bonnie 'Prince' Billy

2 or 3 albums a year, some pretty weak (this year's output was frankly just going through the motions and possibly just a vehicle for new songs to play live - an exercise in which Oldham is very good). This decade, I feel two issues dominate the discography: this, and mostly, The Wonder Show of the World with the Cairo Gang.

Replica by Oneohtrix Point Never

This and the following I don't know what to write about, I will some day.

Ravedeath, 1972 by Tim Hecker

My top 20 is completed by records by Matana Roberts (but the follow-up was disappointing), Colin Stetson (see him live!), Tiloun (awesome maloya music from Reunion Island), Tom Waits, Charles Bradley (as good as soul revival can get), A$AP Rocky (favourite hip-hop release from that year, haven't heard enough tbh), Camille (innovative post-Björk chanson), Jeffrey Lewis, Bill Wells & Aidan Moffat (of Arab Strap "fame"), Ducktails, Pat Jordache, Laura Veirs, Big K.R.I.T., Action Bronson.

2011 was before I really started listening to new music, so I'm not very well educated on the year. Still, these albums come to mind:

Dive by Tycho

Bon Iver, Bon Iver by Bon Iver

The Dragon Of An Ordinary Family by Jehst

Build A Rocket Boys! by Elbow

Burst Apart by The Antlers

3. Whokill by Tune Yards
4. Bad As Me by Tom Waits
5. Deerhoof vs. Evil by Deerhoof
6. Exmilitary by Death Grips

Not much separating these, couldn't keep it to a top 5.
