1984. Superb overall team. 1994 has some great stuff (Jeru, Stereolab, Beasties) but I don't care for Nirvana and "Buddy Holly"

1984 for sure. Nothing against the '94 team, which is still quite good, but the '84 team just caters to my taste a lot more. _________________ Submit Your List for BEA's 2023 Film Poll!

Bee Thousand and Mars Audiac Quintet supersede anything on the 84 team for me, and the rest 94 is pretty strong as well. Going 94 here.

1994, for me, is far more consistent, despite the inclusion of Purple Rain and Meat Puppets II. Also, 'Do You Remember the First Time?' is one of the greatest pop songs ever made. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.

84, the highs are just too transcendent even if not as consistent as 94. Purple Rain and Meat Puppets II would earn my vote regardless on most matches, and I do quite like Treasure and My War though not the records from either to get most excited about (imo). Still good though. Haven't heard Rain Parade. And repoman wins a million sur-sha smooches for the inclusion of not only Rockbox but Beat Happening on the singles team.
94 is yes a stronger team from top to bottom but Unplugged is the only thing that really gets me excited (though Bee Thousand and Mars Audiac Quitet are quite wonderful), I can kind of take or leave Ill Communication as a whole. Haven't heard Jeru the Damalja though. Singles team though is pretty strong throughout and occassionally quite beautiful.
So leaning 84 as it just soars a lot higher, but 94 is no slouch either. Will still try to get a listen to what I haven't heard, though, before voting.

The strongest album on the team imo.

This is really really even for me. I could vote either way on any given day. the highs of 1984 are tremendous with Purple Rain and Treasure, but I think I give 1994 the very slightest of edges for the consistency.
think it's funny to see the Nirvana Unplugged vs Meat Puppets II matchup. It's like it was planned.
Do You Remember the First Time + Red Right Hand + Buddy Holly gives 94 the win. _________________ http://jonnyleather.com

Well, this was a tough one kinda. I mean my favorite album of both teams is "Bee Thousand"(followed closely by "Purple Rain") but My fave single is "William, It Was Really Nothing". So, I had to, like, actually think which was hard.
Singles are pretty evenly grand. I slightly prefer the 5 '84 singles especially that smiths, DMC, Opal trio. But yeah '94's single are tight as well.
What really puts '84 over the edge though is the albums! So brilliantly put together! I love the beautiful jangly love of Rain Parade, the agitated hillbilly vibing of Meat Puppets, the epic aural tour de force which is Purple Rain, the mashed mutilated walls of hatred and despair in "My War", and of course the meticulously dreamy beauty of "Treasure". Those albums are stellar.
But no disrespect to '94's albums. They're solid.
But yeah '84 got my vote. _________________ -Ryan
