Luciferian Towers by Godspeed You! Black Emperor

It's hard to be excited for a ambient group altogether, imo. Some really cool stuff on here, especially the 3 part pieces. So while it isn't something I'd be demanding to listen to, if I were on a road trip or in a mood to totally go subconscious, I'd totally consider this album.

Is This The Life We Really Want? by Roger Waters

Ragings of an old testosterone overran man. haha. I mean that in jest, kind of. I'm just imagining this is the album you make as a crotchety old man.

Kidding aside, it was pretty fantastic. Probably best work in decades.

Add Violence by Nine Inch Nails

Nothing crazy awesome. Trent's awesome layers and such, but nothing crazy interesting either.

Science Fiction by Brand New

First listen... so far doesn't feel canned. Feels like it could maybe make my top 10.

My first listen, I thought these guys were a gimmick.

Now I love them.

Side note: what creates staying power? I know this has been a discussion before, but even more curious as I try and create "staying power" with some albums that mean nothing to me right now.

For me, it's a significance that gets created by myself in collaboration with the work, incorporating deliberate things like how I engage with the work and arbitrary chance things like where I'm at in life, and where the album ends up fitting into the course of other work from the artist and works from other artists. Like I think music would suck if there was just one of it, the value comes from there being more than one and the context the individual music makes for itself and the context that is created for it by all the other music.

Honestly though I think staying power is overrated, future me can fuck off and do whatever, I don't need him to make now significant. Because I'm taking advantage of the unique opportunity to experience the things in their moment, a specific context that will soon be dead and unavailable.

I still need to get some records under my belt from this year. Probably have more than 20 albums that I have listen to this year alone.
For old farts, I would recommend the new Jamiroquai record. That was a dope record that took risks but payed off to my ears.
For rap records, give All Amerikkkan Badass as well as Flower Boy a listen.
For chilled records give the Washed Out album a listen as well as the new Bonobo album. Love those albums, and need to hear it again.
Other then that, you have done pretty good.

Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

AWESOMELY SAID.

I suppose I was just thinking what do I like - and how do I know something is a grower and when to give up early and why the hell am I doing this... will it mean anything 5 years from now?

But seriously - sometimes you just got to live in the moment and not worry about what the future holds.
