Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 72.8/100, a mean average of 72.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 72.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 11.3.

Not as coherent, scary and brilliant as LYSFLATH and especially F#A#, but there are moments, melodies here that are as good as anything Godspeed have done. A fantastic album, one of the best of the year. I really miss the spoken word sections though!
The two 3 part works are pretty stellar.
Disappointing, but it's still Godspeed.
Blah blah, it's not as good as the best stuff they've done, blah blah it's not this or that. How about what it is rather than what it's not? There's moments on this as good as anything released this year. When they arrive they still make me feel. Not the best album they've made. Not the best album of the year. More interesting, emotional and just better than nearly the vast majority of releases this year.
I loved it. But I'm gonna have to return to their older work to really understand it.

I don't know if I should review this off of a leak, but I don't think it's gonna make much of a difference once I hear the official release.
I notice the band with this album and ASAOD are breaking away from the "slow buildup" formula they're known for. New formula worked better this time mostly due to the lack of long boring drones (which they have done well a couple of times, but on ASAOD it was more of a pain in the ass). I appreciate that they're still changing and trying out new things 20 years after their debut. I'm not so sure I fully dig this new style yet though. The buildups gave the music and the melodies a bit of tension and made them more powerful. There are nice sounds and melodies on this album, but yeah, they lack a bit of emotion and tension and becomes less powerful. They seem to have completely abandoned the classic voice samples after LYSFLATH, but again I guess it's better for a band to progress than redo the same formula 'till it's old and tired. Overall quite an improvement over ASAOD (shows that they've not completely lost it, thankfully). Not one of their best, but good nonetheless.
Bosses Hang and Anthem For No State are split into three parts according to iTunes so it should probably be adjusted.
I hope this is gonna be better than ASAOD (which I found to be rather mediocre). Love GYBE so I've got my hopes up!
