How generous or stingy are you with your 100 ratings? Do you think they should be saved for that 1 special album? I currently have 3 but I don't know if I have been too generous.

My 3 are:

Blood Sugar Sex Magik by Red Hot Chili Peppers

and

Simple Things by Zero 7

and

When It Falls by Zero 7

Well don't feel bad. I have like 40 records that I have give 100. Older records have more wiggle room to getting a higher score compared to recent records that came just this year. Plus to me, I have only heard 269 records so the chances for an album to get the 100 from me will get smaller and smaller. Plus this doesn't count to multiple listens where the grade goes down to a 95 or 90. And lastly, I always try to go to the records that interest me the most.

I haven't listened to an album that I think is 100% perfect, but a few are close:

Perfect From Now On by Built To Spill

Ghosts Of The Great Highway by Sun Kil Moon

The Argument by Fugazi

Would you ever give those records a 100 later on in the future with more years underneath your listening belt?

There's always a chance, but I've spent so much time with these albums that I think it'd be difficult to excuse the minor inconsistencies. I'm not sure that I'll ever find an album that is absolutely perfect. I'm very happy with these albums and I'll still be fine if this is as good as it gets. Smile

I've got 3 albums which I've rated as being 100 out of the 600ish which I've rated. So I don't think that you're being too generous. I've seen some profiles which have given that rating to hundreds, of albums, which I don't really like. I think that one should be a little bit stingy with giving out ratings of 100, because if you give that rating to everything, nothing really stands out.

None.

There are no Rock or Jazz albums that are as astonishing as Beethoven's 9th, Mahler's 9th, Bach's Mass in B Minor, Schubert's 9th, Verdi's Requiem, Wagner's Tristan & Isolde ... therefore... etc.

Though albums like Black Saint and the Sinner Lady, Trout Mask Replica, Rock Bottom, A Love Supreme and Faust are pretty damn life-changing from a musical perspective, and not particularly far off. I'm just a strict mo-fo. 100 is 100 -- not just a very good work all the way through -- but actually the most overwhelmingly powerful, profound and astonishing artistic experience that has ever existed and that is ever likely to exist.

58 albums! I know it's a big number but in my defense I've already rated more than 2000 albums and my rating average is under 60 ... so if I gave 100 it's because I really think they deserve it.
