Best Ever Techno & House Album Round 1:

Ammnesia by Mr. Fingers

Nominated by Skinny

Discogs user with poor grammar wrote:
Very very rare album by Mr. Heard, the original pressing is dealed with about onehundred dollars. "can You Feel It" and "Washing Mashine" are one of THE tracks, which had a big influence for development of House. Don't miss...

VS.

The Art Of Connecting by Jeff Mills

Nominated by Norman Bates

EDJ303 on Discogs wrote:
More than anything, The Art of Connecting succinctly showcases precisely how ably Mills has mastered all corners of the techno spectrum.

VOTE FOR YOUR FAVOURITE. PLEASE LISTEN TO BOTH ALBUMS BEFORE VOTING

Damn it. These BETH discussions makes me realize that I have listen to a small portion of music. However I do want to be part of this. So after I am done listening to the record I am hearing, I will get to this.

Ammnesia is quite possibly (along with - thanks to Tap - Stakker's Eurotechno) the best discovery I've made during BETH. I picked the 2LP version up a little while ago and it sounds heavenly coming out of my modest speaker set up, so goodness knows what Washing Machine must have sounded like pumped out onto Chicago dance floors. It's an awesome set.

The Mills album doesn't do that much for me, truth be told. Easy vote to Larry.

that's basically how I feel. I keep coming back to Bye Bye, like the Fingers Inc version is cool and all, but this version is so great to put on whenever.

I've never really been able to get into Mills at all, I remember I heard some of his stuff way early on when I was digging into electronic music in general, and it left me feeling entirely cold to it and that has never changed. but I can tell he's going for something really specific so it's the sort of thing where I appreciate that he has the position he does and feels like he should, but I just cant get into it. Would be curious to hear from anyone who is really into it tho.

Oddly enough I don't mind the first Waveform Transmission set - it's abrasive, brash and off it's trolley to start with, then you get this banger 3 tracks in:

Link

Which is doubly annoying, as he has tracks to rival anything Derrick May could do but just decides to go off on this industrial techno trip which does nothing for me at all. Where the two meet - on tracks like DNA, for example - it sounds majestic, but where it doesn't it ends up sounding like some 8-bit soundchip being tortured within an inch of its life whilst being repeatedly hit with 20 sledgehammers - like a hellish bad trip if acid dealt in binary.

this is a far cry from my favorite Mills release, but even the best of Mills (good as it is) is no match for Ammnesia. There's only a small handful of albums anywhere in the tornament I'd vote for over one of the greatest acid house collections to ever grace the earth. Thank god for Larry Heard and thank god for Chicago

fun fact: DJ'd at a party of deadmau5 listening frat bros one time and even they couldn't resist getting down to Can You Feel It. There's a magic in this record

I'm going to have to with Ammnesia as well. It's one of the albums that introduced me to house.

Will either of these be making an appearance in the tournament?

Neither were originally nominated... HOWEVER they're both essential, so if you want to represent them you can have the two picked that a guy called newuser originally suggested seeing as it doesn't look like they're active. Is that cool?

Here's what's happened up to this point:

FIRST ROUND MATCHUPS

Another Side (Fingers, Inc) vs Padlock Special Mixes (Gwen Guthrie) HERE
Newbuild (808 State) vs Chill Out (KLF) HERE
The Last Resort (Trentemøller) vs Zauberberg (Gas) HERE
BCD (Basic Channel) vs Frankie Knuckles Greatest Hits On Trax HERE
Chosen Lords (AFX) vs Colours (Circulation) HERE
Frequencies (LFO) vs E2-E4 (Manuel Gottsching) HERE
In Sides (Orbital) vs Deep Space (Model 500) HERE
Minutes Of Sleep (Francis Harris) vs Bump Talkin (Paul Johnson) HERE
Deep Forest vs Transient (Gaelle) HERE
Eurotechno (Stakker) vs Spanners (The Black Dog) HERE
Virgo vs Luxury Problems (Andy Stott) HERE
Orb's Adventures Beyond The Ultraworld vs Neptune's Lair (Drexciya) HERE

Absolutely. I wish I would have seen this sooner, seeing as though I've heard most of whats already been voted on.
