Pool by Skee Mask

RIYL - AFX, Autechre, Andy Stott, diseased breakbeat, claustrophobic jungle, German dub techno schizz, other stuff that doesn't have guitars in.

RECOMMENDED COCKTAIL RECIPE - Pernod and rusty alun keys

STREAM IT - HERE
***LISTEN TO IT MORE THAN ONCE OTHERWISE DON'T FECKIN' BOTHER***

Placeholder just to prove I haven't forgotten...

More when I can be arsed.

Was wondering what you'd pick.

Kinda skipped this when it dropped. Didn't hear a whole lot about it tbh. Suppose it's going in the queue Razz

You and me both. I've not heard more than 10 albums I've liked this year. Purposely picked something that sounded like hammers.

Speaking of which, the best album this year is not even an album. It's a pretty freakin' awesome soul compy. Check it.

Also going in the queue Very Happy

I'm so glad comps aren't useless anymore. The past 5-6 years have really been a revelation. There's always been some standouts throughout the 80s, 90s, etc... but I've found comps have been particularly great the last few years (and with purpose!).

Yep - the Eccentric Soul series on Numero continues to deliver, and this album's in a similar vein (but better, if you ask me). VA compys have always had a place in my heart - in fact in the days before t'Internet most of my best discoveries came from sampling a track off a finely curated double cassette (and I'm not talking about those Now albums every 80s-90s kid in Britain found in their Xmas stocking).

Nothing like Skee Mask though. That's a different basket of ball bearings entirely.

(I get the cue to not get off topic), but I just want to add Numero has been amazing recently. Always keeping an eye on their reissues/comps. Rarely miss. Check out these recent ones if you haven't—

Tale Of My Lost Love by Female Species
Money Is The Root Of Evil by Dan Boadi ...rnationals
Songs Of David Lewis by David Lewis
Tomorrow's Gone by Charlie Megira

Saw this one on RYM, it's somewhere in my queue. Glad I have the reason to bump it all the way to the top since Compro was excellent.

Yeah, I didn’t even know this was ALC when I heard it a couple days ago, but while I really liked it, I definitely agree that it DOES seem to need more listens to fully click. So that’s what I’m doing now <3

Yeah I think I listened to this 3 times and it just didn't jive with me. Unfortunately I just found it incredibly boring.

Thanks for sharing this though, no way I would've listened if it weren't ALC.
