I can never decide which of the first 4 Zeppelin albums I like the most. My favorite tends to be the one I've listened to the most recently. LZII shows Zep growing their sound a bit. There's also a bit more original material here although lots of it draws heavy influence from earlier artists. There are several unforgettable tunes here. Whole Lotta Love and Heartbreaker never fail to get me going even after all these years.

I wanted to write a hot take about how this is the weakest of their first six, but I was already beaten to it.
Still pretty good though. _________________ All time

In my opinion, Led Zeppelin II is easily one of the greatest albums ever recorded. I've loved it since its release. Definitely the best album by Led Zeppelin (And most were very good; though Coda and In Through The Out Door were mediocre). My second favorite band of all-time (second to only The Beatles). Absolutely love this album.
I remember listening to LZII back in 1969. I had, at the time, a beautiful Pioneer stereo receiver with four speakers for quad sound. LZII was one of the best sounding albums on this system. Bonzo's drums and cymbals sounded like they were in the room right in front of me. The guitar playing was magical.
In comparison to music today, not much overdubbing happened here. What you hear is true Led Zeppelin: vocal, guitar, bass, drums, and keyboards here and there. Never mind autotune, protools adjustments, multiple instrumentation -- this is the real deal. _________________ Elder of the gentle race

It's probably because the first two albums both had only one "nice 'n' slow" acousticky track each, namely Black Mountain Side and Thank You, to break up the long sequence of blues-rock stomps that early Zeppelin was most famous for. Subsequent albums all had at least three each, which made them more interesting/satisfying to listen to all the way through, IM(H)O.
Led Zeppelin and their producers were never all that great at track sequencing (and given the way they blew it on Presence, they only got worse over time). But in all fairness, they could be excused for the first two albums because they didn't really know in advance that Zeppelin wasn't going to be a "singles band," and in terms of songwriting they were probably a lot more concerned with putting together setlists full of crowd-pleasers for their live shows. And for historical context, during the 1968-1970 period the industry was moving from singles bands to "Album-Oriented Rock" (AOR), and not coincidentally from lo-fi AM to hi-fi FM radio as well. But when the first two Zep albums were released, a lot of music-biz people still weren't so sure those trends were going to last.
Long story short, this is also my own least-favorite of the first six, but nevertheless, of all the early-70's blues-rock/old-school metal acts that were big and famous, these guys are really the only one I still actually listen to. I was listening to this album in the car just a couple of months ago, in fact.

As I’ve come to appreciate the debut more as time has gone on, I may have to jump aboard the “weakest of the first six” train myself for Zep2.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great record and as a previous comment points out, it sounds pretty great too, however it feels perhaps like a slightly less urgent version of the debut as well as not nearly honed in as they would be by Zep4.
2 was one of my most listened to albums for a time growing up, but I don’t find myself returning to it very often. There are some great songs on here like Heartbreaker and Ramble On, and as a drummer I really appreciate Moby Dick as well, but also some not so stellar Zeppelin tracks.
Just the other day I noticed this album is ranked 42 overall on this site, and frankly that’s far too high. _________________ Attention all planets of the solar federation: We have assumed control.

Enjoy the album every time I listen to it.
Powerful. Robert plant's voice is unbelievable.
The guitar and drums are so wonderful.
I which it was a bit longer.
