About album of the day: The BestEverAlbums.com album of the day is the album appearing most prominently in member charts in the previous 24 hours. If an album, or artist, has previously been selected within a x day period, the next highest album is picked instead (and so on) to ensure a bit of variety. A full history of album of the day can be viewed here.
I've never been all that partial to it, personally. I liked his stuff a lot better after his voice started getting super-gravelly in the late 80's and onwards. I guess my favorite studio album of his is probably I'm Your Man (1988), and my favorite album of his overall is probably Live In London (2009). It's unusual for me to favor a live album over a bunch of studio albums in someone's discography, but this is one of those cases, despite the cheesy organ sound that permeates it. (In fact, the only other recording artist that would apply to is The Tubes, though maybe DIIV, too.)
Also: This will sound sexist, but every woman I've ever met who liked Leonard Cohen, going all the way back to High School, prefers the earlier stuff — especially this album and The Best Of Leonard Cohen. Admittedly that's only three or four women, though. (Three or four who liked Leonard Cohen, that is; the total number of women I've known is at least twice that number.)
