let me tell you a lil sum sumthin, when I heard Leonard Cohen's voice, it was the most depressing thing I ever heard. I was young, eager, and flirting with the phase wherein I judged others as shallow. When, (hold on) I heard this collection of songs, "I was like," what the funk is this shit? But in the back of mind, because I didn't swear in my thoughts, as i had decided to not be shallow. Naturally, i didn't want to admit that I wasn't getting anything out of it, that Cook-Book, the dude from Peurto Rico, had sold me some bunk shit. So what I would do with my CDs in those days, with a patience and enthusiasm I killed long ago, I would play the albums in question on my headphones as I went to sleep. This was kind of like a filtering process. Some Albums made it; some didn't. Surfer Rosa famously never made it, but the Dangerous Minds soundtrack did. And sometimes I would listen to KROQ all night and Sex and Candy became my love song for all the girls I had secret crushes on in Sixth grade. But back to L. cohen, eventually everytime I remembered this disc I had a memory, dark and damp, of me as an immigrant with my parents hiding in some old lady's cellar...and there was a freeway near by under a pass.

An incredible collection, these tracks are handpicked beautifully but they shouldn't dissuade anyone from buying the studio albums also.
