Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 6% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.6/100, a mean average of 73.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.6/100. The standard deviation for this album is 17.4.

There's a lot to like here, such as muscular guitar riffs and very good songs. The album is strongest when Love lets loose on the vocals, as on "Jennifer's Body". Then some parts are too screechy for my taste, and I found the chorus and verse too repetitive at times. And the quiet-loud dynamic gets old. Overall though I still like this, and the tracks aren't too long. (Edited)

I was first introduced to this album by my sister and have been under a spell ever since. Love herself admitted that she had a competitive songwriting streak with her then husband, Kurt Cobain, and it shows, as Love and her bandmates were able to create songs that demanded as much of the listener's attention as anything Nirvana had ever made. From the gorgeous rocker of an opener Violet to the also rocking closer Rock Star, Live Through This is an album that takes hold of the listener and doesn't let go until the end, and features themes about beauty, motherhood, anti-elitism and violence against women. Absolutely essential '90s time capsule. The perfect sonic middle ground between their debut, Pretty on the Inside, which was all piss and vinegar without too many hooks, and Celebrity Skin, which some found a bit too polished and radio friendly. Courtney Love was arguably just as talented as Kurt- and yes, that's always been a controversial take, but this album is Exhibit A. (Edited)

This album strikes me as heavily influenced (although, perhaps, subconsciously) by Throwing Muses. It rivals some of their releases and is a fine record. The only thing that keeps it from being an all-time classic is none of the songs stand out as truly memorable. They do have pieces of the songs that are quite good, but nothing that really is a stand-out, IMO. 8.5/10! (Edited)

Starts off great but then quality of the songs dips a bit. Fantastic rhythms on many tracks. Enough decent songs to deem it a good album. Not enough to make it great (Edited)
