The Trouble With Templeton (TTWT), a name taken from the title of a Twilight Zone episode, started out as the nom de plume of Thomas Calder, of Brisbane, Australia. This album, the first one by TTWT, was made by him alone — but it got some good reviews and did well enough commercially that he was then signed to Bella Union, found some other musicians to work with, and quickly made TTWT into a 5-piece. That band then made two more albums as a proper indie-rock band, but this album is basically just the one guy with an acoustic guitar and a decidedly tired-sounding, tenor-type voice (not unlike that of Radiohead's Thom Yorke) doing some fairly dark-sounding bluesy folk tunes. I wouldn't quite call it "sadcore" since that usually implies less-sparse instrumentation, but listening to this probably won't give you the impression that Thomas was an especially happy guy when this was recorded. Still, it's a good album if you're in the mood for that sort of thing.
