A lot of positives I could name about this album: creative, dark, heavy, atmospheric, etc. Sadly, entertaining isn't one of them.
I thinks it's overall a good album, but some times it fluctuates from "damn this is great!" (I Luv the Valley and Clowne Towne) to "hmmm wtf is happening" (Support Our Troops). And even if it's Xiu Xiu's most accessible, I feel like you gotta accept that it's still going to make you uncomfortable, but it's great for those who enjoy the discomfort
I saw play Xiu Xiu play Santa Cruz, (California) this year. It was a pretty small venue/restaurant. Jamie Stewart's performance was unique. It looked like he dreaded playing "I Luv The Valley, Oh !". The Neo-Hippie's all loved that song & sang along. If you ever get a chance to see this band live, you should. This album has some solid tracks. It's probably the most accessible Xiu Xiu release.
