Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. I realize it's not their best album from a purely objective point of view, but it's nevertheless my favorite album of all time. What can I say, it just struck a chord with me.
A little more refined than their debut but in a similar vein. No bad tracks but also no top quality ones either. Still a cracking album.

First side is great, second side pretty terrible. Some hidden gems here though like Red, Meccanic Dancing and Battery Brides!
