Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 3% of albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a mean average rating of 78.0/100. The trimmed mean (excluding outliers) is 78.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.2.

If I didn't know this was from 89 I never would have guessed. I probably would have guessed 2010's, like a Julia Holter sorta thing. It's really good!
My first introduction to this record was through a full album upload on YouTube, in which the user (unbeknownst to me until I looked up the album) had reordered the tracklist and removed the iconic track 'Falling'.
This is the consequential tracklist below and I have to say I agree with the description in the video that it improves upon the "feeling of a collection of individual tunes, rather than a single piece" that the original release had. I know its a form of musical sacrilege to rejig an album like this but I thought I should just come clean and say I prefer this version ...

There are some moments on this album that absolutely surprised me, like the abrupt intrusion of horns about 3:30 in Into The Night, the pace & key change about 2:00 into I Remember, and the detached, jagged piano playing late into I Float Alone. These creative choices prevent the album from growing stale, which it risks at times from the droning ambience and methodical vocals. It would be even better with some more additions like these, but this is still a very solid listen
Great example of quality dream pop.
I like this more than anything by Cocteau Twins
The sadness and beauty in every song is so seducing and dreamy. This speaks to me in a deep level. I feel like this is somehow the soundtrack that's always playing inside my mind and I only found out now that I actually heard this album.
A beautiful album full of absolutely gorgeous songs from both Twin peaks series and Blue velvet, as well as a few other tracks. If you're a fan of those, especially Twin peaks, you cannot fail to be transported to that place in the woods, the shadows, into a place of mystery. Extremely atmospheric, it's a great late night, lights out album.
You've been transported to the fanciest lounge jazz club that you dreamt about visiting for years. All of that waiting has paid off when the entity singing on the main stage is the love of your life.
The best album to float away on.
great album to sit back - close your eyes - and float into the night. leave the rest of the world behind.
