Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 1% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 81.8/100, a mean average of 80.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 81.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 17.4.

Paul's Boutique is a unique beast. The dense, sample-heavy production and the trio's lyrical acrobatics are on full display.

Good, entertaining rap album with creative use of samples it was ahead of its time.

There is a lot of fun to be had with this record if you don't take it too seriously. As someone who didn't grow up on this sound I came into with no bias towards or against the record. I found myself having a lot of fun as long as I wasn't listening too in depth. When I did this I found it quite an outdated record with lots of moments that sound rough and almost annoying at times. It does have some great samples in places and they do elevate a few songs which make them extremely enjoyable. However, sampling has been done to a much higher degree in the future and it can almost make the best samples on here look poor in comparison. There is no question about the influence this release has had but I do question the quality that is on here. Overall, I can see why people love this record with the nostalgia around it and it is easy listening but its just not for me.

An encyclopedia of arcane references, a rapid fire series of comedic rhymes, a mind-blowing set of samples and beats…this album still sounds modern.

The best compliment I can give this album is how easy the Beasties made this seem. In fact, they made it look so easy, that I believe this band spawned more horrible classroom raps for suburban middle school projects than any other. For that, I deduct 5 points.

A trippy sampledelia masterpiece by the BBs. No time waste in this album. So much humor and wordplay, yet it set a blueprint from underground rap such as Madvillain to mainstream rap like Eminem.
