Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 1% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 81.8/100, a mean average of 80.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 81.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 17.6.

An encyclopedia of arcane references, a rapid fire series of comedic rhymes, a mind-blowing set of samples and beats…this album still sounds modern.
The best compliment I can give this album is how easy the Beasties made this seem. In fact, they made it look so easy, that I believe this band spawned more horrible classroom raps for suburban middle school projects than any other. For that, I deduct 5 points.
Thank god for Beastie Boys, they saved the rap in my books, fun and varied execution of this music genre
A trippy sampledelia masterpiece by the BBs. No time waste in this album. So much humor and wordplay, yet it set a blueprint from underground rap such as Madvillain to mainstream rap like Eminem.
Aquele clássico de inesgotável prazer,
A polished gem.
Unique style, highly enjoyable as long as you don't take the lyrics too seriously (they're not intended to) and just have fun.
Fav. Tracks: Shake Your Rump, The Sounds Of Silence, 3-Minute Rule, Hey Ladies, B-Boy Bouillabaisse.
Awesome album, favorite by the Beasties.
Paul's Boutique throughout the years has become my favorite Beasties album its a nice combo of license to ill and ill communication its smarter doper and more immature than the others
Beastie Boys are one of my favorite band (All genre confused). Despite being a commercial failure at the time, "Paul's Boutique" is the best album of the Beasties.
Absolute masterpiece, production model, deluge of samples, the album is an indisputable reference to rock culture composed of archive samples and that's why I love it. Each title of "Paul's Boutique" is extremely punchy with dynamic beats and cult hip-hop vocals. The Beastie Boys confirm, with "Paul's Boutique", a style of their own, mix of rap and rock, particularly inventive. Over time, this album has truly transformed into an absolute reference of the rap of the eighties, far from calibrated, formatted and standardized rap. It remains, after more than a quarter of a century, a unifying album, audacious, effective, completely unclassifiable and really essential for the music.
Best track: "Shake Your Rump"
