Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 8% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.1/100, a mean average of 74.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.9.

May21. So the album gets underway with a slow burn/build-up. 'Eat the Elephant' is a slow piano, bass and drum-driven number that reminds me of slow jazz in its delivery. 'Disillusioned' is a very good song with a great message. Still, it is another slow song over 5 minutes to open the album. 'The Contrarian' is even slower. This really is mood music that reminds me of the opening credits of West World or the soundtrack to some other futuristic drama.
Nothing really changes with 'The Doomed'. Another slow, but very good song. At least it builds a little more towards the end for our first slice of actual heaviness. I have loved 'So Long, And Thanks for All the Fish'. A great ode to living life in excess and worrying about all the fake shit in our lives. 'Talk Talk' maintains a bit of the heaviness.
I've played the whole album through several times and I tend to tune in and out. The whole things sounds really good, but with its mellow nature it kind of lulls you into subconsciousness. Still, everything here is well crafted. 3.5/5

Feels very long. There is a theatrical element to it, which is not really welcome. Sort of a heavy, overly-serious Meatloaf!

Its Maynard James Keenan and its A Perfect Circle so its got to be good right ? Well in this case the answer is yes !

There's always a lot to unpack with APC albums and 'Eat the Elephant' is no exception , it took me several solid listens to get my head around this album

The brute force of previous releases has made way for a more mellow approach which works equally as well . MJK's biting lyrics are also here in spades as he questions gun control , politics , technology and social break down just to name a few

The industrial styled "Hourglass" just didn't work for me and is a clear album weak link and the 6 minute close out track "Get The Lead Out" ends the album on something of a whimper rather than a bang unfortunately

Lucky the music is good because the album cover art completely sucks , the creative minds definitely got this one wrong . Its not as bad as Jack Whites 'Boarding House Reach ' cover but 'Eat the Elephant' runs a close 2nd in Worst Album Cover in 2018

Is this the best album in 2018 ? Nope . Is this one of the better albums in 2018 ? Definitely !

Took some listens for it to reveal its layers, but it's a very solid record from beginning to end. It doesn't have the bite of songs like Judith or Pet but every part of the songs on this album are meticulously constructed.

They've taken a softer approach here, but it works so well. It's on par with both Mer De Noms and Thirteenth Step in terms of quality. Now choosing my favourite APC album will be even harder, thanks Maynard & Billy.
