A classic horror movie, but as an album. It's so damn extreme, but never in a cliché way. The rhythm section is absolutely pummeling from start to finish.

@corenfro no need to insult Michael Gira. you can't find a negative review for To Be Kind from anyone who's paid for their feedback and hears a ton of music, so.... sorry that you can't appreciate some of the best music this decade.

Just gave this a much-anticipated first listen while I sat alone in my car on one of most violently-windy nights of my life - I’m talking leaves flying all around, streetlights flickering (literally), all while this dude is screaming through my speakers repeatedly to let him in. Now I’m home and my house is creaking and I’ve got my cat cause I am scared pantless from whatever I just listened to. I don’t know if I’ve got the strength to give this another listen, still part of me just wants to give it another go right now. This thing is nuts.

Ridiculously impressive feat of Noise Rock. This album is traumatising from start to finish, perfecting the art of horror without the need for visuals. Definitely a high point this decade.

I wanted to hate this and put some snarky comment directed at the Michael Gira fanboys about how music that doesn't sound good and is painful to listen to isn't actually good. And there are moments on it that comment applies to. But it's not so simple...

The first few minutes I was ready to write it off, but then it started getting interesting and dare I say enjoyable. What was this? Was I starting to budge from deeply rooted close minded-ness after spending dozens of hours giving artists like swans' discography repeat listens to never "get it"? Maybe!

To be honest if this thing were 3 hours long I'd probably have never given it a 2nd listen. But even during the 1st listen there were songs that were just downright groovy. On repeat listens many more things unfolded: the richness, the sonic depth, the great production that was somehow simultaneously heavy and soothing, some great things.

I can't say this is something I'll fall in love with and listen to dozens of times, but I get the hype, it's well done and worthwhile to explore a few times.

The fact this album was released following a 9 year hiatus of sorts is remarkable , the fact that it is so darn good is even more remarkable

I came to this album late in 2018 and the wait was worth it . From the opening bars of "City Song" you are plunged into a dark and frightening world that doesn't let up for it's 50 minutes. It's intense for sure but delve deeper and you'll appreciate the fine production and incredible instrumentation amongst the sad and angry lyrics

For me this album was a real grower , upon 1st listen the intensity was quite jarring and I wasn't sure , but there was something there that drew me back for a second listen and then it started to gel. Overall it took 4 full LOUD listens to eventually fall in love with it but I'm there now

Incredible album and correctly rated as one of 2108's very best albums

I don't see why everyone is saying this is so terrifying. Sure, it is dark and have some unsettling themes but it's not like it's too scary to listen to. I found it to be decent but nothing really makes me want to come back and listen to it (I gave it numerous listens anyways). "Satan in the Wait" and "Guest House" are my two favorite songs. Both of them have great lyricism and tell an interesting story. The last two songs ("Ocean Song" and "Guest House") are very depressing but captivating, telling the story of what I interpreted as a man who suddenly couldn't handle his mundanity anymore and runs away only to find his destination inaccessible. The rest didn't hold my attention as much so I can't help but feel let down after all the hype (i.e. Fantano).

Terrifying and hypnotizing. You finish the record shaken, yet wanting to give it another listen

Well, I need to turn a few more lights on.

It took me a few tracks to get settled in, and I wanted to stop listening after the first song. I'm glad I didn't, because I found myself immersed in how dark this was. I can't help but feel like I'm in a sinister trance right now.

Terrifying record the metastasizes like a tumor. Dark analogy? Well this is a terrifically dark album.
