Calexico are a band that's gotten a lot of alt-country buzz over the years, but I've never really gotten into too much. This is one of their more acclaimed albums. About half the tracks are instrumentals, and I tend to get bored during those, but the other half are really nice songs.

This album is a modern take on Mariachi music and Ennio Morricone's soundtracks. Throughout the mood is languid and introspective. The vocal passages are rather weak and thus the album works best in the various instrumental pieces.
