Godfather II (studio album)

A tepid sequel that feels more like a cash-in on Wiley's renewed critical and commercial success. Some decent pop-rap tunes and enjoyable overall, but this is nothing special so don't expect much.

It's true that "Godfather II" stumbles from solid grime to decent pop tunes from track 6 onwards, but the second half of the record isn't necessarily bad, it just doesn't hold up to the likes of the first half or the tracks on the great "Godfather". But overall it's still worth a listen, even if the end result is a bit half-baked.

In no way a sequel to last year's amazing Godfather, on Godfather 2 Wiley's completely doubled down on everything grime fans hated in the late 00s. The first 4 tracks are all pretty solid, especially I Call the Shots and Bar. After Remember Me the sound changes up into pop grime and stays that way for the rest of the record. Fashion week onward is especially bad as the lyrics become as terrible as the beats. Wish he'd just delayed it indefinitely now.
