Vessel’s previous work has often worked within a literary framework, but this new venture, which sees him pay tribute to female cultural icons like Hannah Arendt and Remedios Varo, steps things up a gear or two. It’s a frenetic mix of chamber music and dance tropes that shows the broad spectrum of inspiration he draws from.
By Jesus, if Paplu isn’t the most electrifying dance tune in my circuit. Never gives up the groove, but once or twice the groove gives you up... to another groove which can only be described as transcendant.
Unfortunately the rest of the album is kinda spotty, i do like Fantasma and Glory though. An interesting combination that is totally and magnificently taken to its strengths in Paplu, my SOTY.
