Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 67.6/100, a mean average of 66.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 66.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.5.

These are some of the dumbest reviews I've read on this site, and y'all got some competition.
Auto-tune =/= trap inspired first of all... it's a hilarious suggestion though, keep up the bad takes.
No, he doesn't use indiginous instruments from east russia in a 5/4 time signature, but we're talking about music here, not maths or anthropology.
And if you can name one modern song that resembles anything on this album I'd be impressed. Or does "modern" just mean synths and dare-I-say auto-tune, and is meltchett just stuck in a late '70s rock 'n' roll mindset of hating technology (except the electric guitar) and any music that's just fun and not trying to be much more?
Anyway, that's not to say I think Toro y Moi is ahead of time and on his way to change music history. On the contrary, he rather goes back to '00s nostalgia to the '80s with a daft punky radio-friendliness and polished production, and does it mf-ing well. Groundbreaking? No. Enjoyable, and would I mind him or anyone making another such album? Yes. Not everything has to be the saviors of music or complete trash, some music is just pretty good.
Totally nondescript. Everything I dislike about the modern music industry in one record. Just washed over me and absolutely nothing stuck.
Toro y moi, whose real name is Chaz Best, is considered the master of chill-wave (A genre appeared in the 2010s). He released his 7th album, "Outer Peace". Some consider him an extraordinary artist, but that's not my case. Toro y Moi makes a warm and funky music with synthesizer but it is not something exceptional.
6/10
the synth funk tracks are better than the trap-rap inspired ones (complete with autotuned vocals sounding exactly like migos... lol), but "outer peace" houses a distinctive union of genres that shouldn't be dismissed . also, that's one hell of an opening track
Groovy
