i don't listen to metal at all, so there's no point of reference here really, but i quite enjoyed this record ! i do listen to glitch+noise music frequently so i'm not put off by the loudness maintained or the "death / thrash metal" labels . sure, there's the trademark blaring guitars, breakneck drums & gruff vocals, and i can see why people would think almost an hour of it can be a bit mind-numbing, but it nonetheless made me feel energised at half 3 in the morning ! the quality doesn't once dip and LotD keep things interesting by adding very melodic moments here and there that cut through the wall of sound. i think "slaves of the shadow realm" is deftly crafted and a nice start to 2019 .
