Robert Ellis first made waves with his "Lights from the Chemical Plant" record. In 2016, put out an incredible self-titled record. He's outdone himself again on Texas Piano Man.
This time he performs with a healthy dose of piano and witty lyrics and I didn't even know he was capable of either. One hears the influence of Ben Folds and Terry Allen, who is also a Texas native and the first person I think of when I hear the phrase "Texas Piano Man."
This record is as charming as the tuxedo on the front cover. It is sure to bring a smile to your face. Along with Amanda Shires, Robert Ellis is one of the best emerging Texas singer-songwriters around today.
Track Pick: F***ing Crazy
Three songs in and I had to stop. Just go and put on a Jackson Browne or Billy Joel record. They did it first. They did it better!
