The album sounds more like a collection of semi-formed thoughts and ideas than songs. Nothing is really sticking and Solange doesnt really seem to care while she's singing in it. I just donot see the appeal. The whole album just Blah-Blahs away for 30 minutes.
Solange, Beyoncé's sister is back. Despite the presence of too many interludes breaking the rhythm, Solange's disc is a pleasant surprise that mixes jazz, soul, R&B on which we feel many references 70's including "Way to the Show" or "My Skin My Logo" ", sips of bass. Thanks to this last piece, the singer offers herself a duet with Gucci Mane while the very good "Almeda" allows him to highlight with pride his African-American origins. With sober productions and somewhat repetitive lyrics, "When I Get Home" nevertheless allows Beyoncé's sister to unfold as never before in the midst of pure productions. Personally, I'm happy because Playboi Carti and Tyler are on the album. In short, very good album from Solange.
Best track: "Almeda"
Good album, but lacks the high points that made a Seat at the Table really special. Like the abstractness a lot, though.
Not as immediate as A Seat at the Table, but has more to unpack. Also, Solange, do you realize how magnificent you are??
Solange has got the funk. No, really, she really has it cos there’s something about this music that speaks directly to your hips and makes you want to get daaooown. But that’s not all there is, because the politics is there as prominent as ever. So yeah, it’ll make you boogie but it also realises that - in itself, is a political act.
Solange made some interesting choices on this record, and they paid off. Definitely one you should check out!
Very good - not as groundbreaking as ASATT but not a step backwards at all; maybe a step to the side, or a jog in place.
Faves were Jerrod, Sound of Rain, and Time (Is).
Really great. Among the best Alternative R&B albums I listened to.
