Late Teens

Mar20. So, having just seen this band live, this could be a tad biased, because I was very impressed with them. I had only heard a couple of songs a couple of times, so I knew little of their stuff going into the gig and the one song I could say I 'knew' they did not play.
'Crash' builds up from lone drums to guitars, quiet vocals and then they all arrive around half way through the song. Love the chorus and changes of volume in this song. 'Headwreck' is excellent with it cries of, 'I'll bring my A-game,' and chants of, 'Don't be that guy!' Things just get better with the awesome 'Suburbia'. 'I left my heart in the suburbs,' has stayed with me since the gig.
I did not think a song titled 'My Body's Changing' would be of interest to me, but it too is a very good song. 'Golden State' is solid, then instrumental, 'Side B', starts with a riff that sounds just like an opening Menzingers' riff. Another 3 very good songs fly by and then we get to the title track, which has a little Amyl & the Sniffers to its chanted opening. The album finishes with the brilliant (and first song by the band to get my attention) 'Stay Low'. Wow, this should have been a hit.
Whilst it is easy to focus on the energetic vocalist, I must mention how good the playing on here is too. I loved the guitar-work live. The sound is somewhere between punk, alternative rock (what used to be indie rock) and straight up, good old, Aussie pub rock. A bloody good album that should not have flown under the radar on the Aussie music-scape! 4.5/5
