In 2005, Lemon Jelly released their final album, '64-'95. The premise was that each track was built around a sample of a song from a given year. Wind forward 7 years, and one half of the aforementioned duo (Fred Deakin, in case you're wondering), has given himself a new alias (Frank Eddie - one for the anagram fans), and released a similar album. This time, the sampled songs in question are obscure soul, R&B and hip-hop records (with one exception). They're all backed with a funky groove and sometimes sped up to dance proportions, and the result is splendid. Nothing loses the sweetness that presumably the original music had, and the production enhances some already wonderful vocal work. An excellent record, and one which, despite its rarity, is one to track down.
High Points: Rap Romance; Stay Another Day [Frank Eddie Remix]; Bite That

A lot of hard work happens in the background to keep BEA running, and it's especially difficult to do this when we can't pay our hosting fees :(
