Very angry and frantic
This album is extremely rude on the ears. Black Flag sounds like they weigh about ten tons here, moving glacially from heavy riff to ham-handed drum pattern to drawn-out bass drones. Starts out pretty interesting but gets a little humdrum by the end.
The first side is brilliant but I'm not mad on the sludge metal on the second side. The second side should've been released an EP.
Favourite tracks: My War, Beat My Head Against The Wall
To me, My War is the story of side 2 of Damaged taken to its final bleak conclusion. Not a pretty picture I'm afraid. A lot harder to route for our protagonist at this point. From a completely musical point of view, Damaged is a far more varied and thus to me more interesting. Quite unique to see such breadth on a hardcore album. But I nitpick, I love My War too.
