HM:
Type O Negative - October Rust
Type O Negative - World Coming Down
Underoath - Act of Depression
Body Count - s/t
Agalloch - Ashes Against The Grain
Black Sabbath - Master of Reality
Tool - Lateralus
Metallica - Kill Em All
So top 10 metal albums in general is tough, kind of like a "describe the universe and give examples" prompt cause there's just so much to choose from.
But if we're taking alllll the genres of metal and jamming them together into one broad umbrella, this would probably be my top 10 (and for reference I'm not including Sabbath on this list):
1. Symbolic - Death
2. Ride the Lightning - Metallica
3. Requiem Mezzo Forte - Virgin Black (though this is one I need to go back to soon - it floored me on my first handful of listens but it's been a while, I'm curious if it'll still hold up as a favorite)
4. Nightfall in Middle Earth - Blind Guardian
5. Master of Puppets - Metallica
6. Visions - Stratovarius
7. The Mantle - Agalloch
8. Unquestionable Presence - Athiest
9. Far From the Madding Crowd - Wuthering Heights (another one I really need to revisit)
10. Through Silver in Blood - Neurosis _________________ Progressive Rock
i: I may have to switch out the Megadeth album with Peace Sells and the Death album with Leprosy,Human or even Scream Bloody Gore. I think Death's ENTIRE discog is pretty much perfect.
ii: I'll have some Kyuss and Monster Magnet coming up in the next round. Both those bands were huge to me in the 90s.

Good stuff! Nay, GREAT stuff.
Love seeing Through Silver In Blood on this. Such a towering achievement.
Would you be interested in making a top 100 chart of all metal? I know I'm asking a lot but would love a Rocky's Metallic 100 Chart. So far have Gowi's and Ledzep's and part of Repo's and mine of course.
Also, anyone else interested in metal or a mega fan of metal or whatever who wants to make a personal 100 fave metal albums or EPs (all sub genres)...? _________________ -Ryan
Great second set of metal albums. The inclusion of Kiss and Screaming Trees are the only contraversial or eyebrow raising selections lol.
My War is indeed the start of Sludge Metal, with gobs of heavy, sabbath-worshipping riffs. Much like what is widely considered the first Grindcore album, Scum by Napalm Death (1987), it's clear that while the album that started it all had a heavily Hardcore Punk underpinning, but almost everything that came from that initial blast was much more clearly dipping into Metal traditions and not as much Hardcore punk traditions.
Blah blah blah, what I mean to say is good stuff and indeed I did slightly cringe lol.
Oh and Rust In Peace is an album that based on Gowi and LedZep and your lists/charts is perhaps the most widely loved album of em all. But while I really like it and while it had a huge influence on me early on in life, I feel like I am majorly under rating it. Similarly I feel like I am missing something/Underrating Agalloch and specifically The Mantle. Both need re-listens with close attention I think.

Kyuss and Monster Magnet are cool as hell. Need to explore them more. (I think you will LOVE that Down album NOLA in case you haven't heard it. I am having a hard time finding a fellow appreciator of that album and that confuses me because I really feel like the guitar tone and riffs and drums and sound and vocals and songs and grooves on that album are NEXT LEVEL badass). _________________ -Ryan
