Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 3% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.6/100, a mean average of 77.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 78.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.7.

Okay, so maybe I went a little over the top there but as you say drstuey, the whole package is incredible. Glad to see that there's another Betty Davis fan on the site. Stay funky!

I'm not sure I agree that this is the funkiest *music* ever, though it is pretty darn cool - but the whole package is just incredible. Her vocal performance is amazing. So much sass. The lyrics are awesome - such a unique perspective and really clever. I also liked how the 70's rock guitar was well integrated into the overall sound, when on some of the funk albums from the mid 70's, the guitar is too much and stands out and takes you out of the funk. 10/10 will listen again and add to the artists I follow and enthuse to strangers about how good she is.
