Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 72.7/100, a mean average of 73.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 73.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 7.7.

(9 tracks, 27 minutes, and gobs of charmingly lazy and very VERY relaxed and slack Indie folk/Pop. I don't know what it is about this little album, but it just vibes with me so damn well.)

Well, this is low-effort pop in the best way. Andy Shauf's vocals throughout this album are slurry and sleepy and tired and I get the sense he has a half smile on his lips and his eyes half open as he delivers these tracks. But the melodies and the very stripped down instrumentals and the way the songwriting sounds so natural and conversational and observational, all the elements come together to make for just a super chill and beautiful listening experience.

With an album so trim, so free of long passages, its important that there are no duds here - as such would stick out like a sore thumb on this tracklist. There are no duds here imo. I think each song is short, insubstantial (again, in a good way) and quick in passing. But there are some highlights, such as the beautiful "Green Glass", or the funny (to me anyway - i always laugh) "Spanish on the Beach", or "Jaywalker" with its dreamy almost psychedelic guitar riff and the walking, loping bass line, or the hypnotic and offbeat "Television Blue", or the sad and somber "Wicked and Wild", and of course the 2 "Wilds" tracks that open and close this album. I just like this album. It feels strangely familiar even on first listen. Very welcoming.

I think there is a concept here, there is a woman named Judy who keeps coming up, etc. I have not put together what the theme or conceptual thru-line is, nor have I tried. Maybe someday I will, but for now this is just a cool, slack ass indie pop singer/songwriter album. And its short and sweet. Highly recommended.
