I have to admit i got sucked in by Diminuendo and wanted more. Can only imagine being in that crowd that day - starting with an indifferent feeling to the Duke on stage - to being completely won over and wanting more by the time it was done.
Reminds me of the same feeling when I first heard Springsteen Hammersmith Odeon London Live. Neither crowd knows what is going to hit them until it was too late! Hold On while you listen. (Edited)

Ahhh...Ellington's signature album that sustained and revitalized his career. From the smoking tenor of Paul Gonsalves, to the blonde in black, to the Time magazine cover that would follow weeks later...what a great story!
My pick for Best Album of 1956.
Best tracks: Diminuendo and Crescendo in Blue, Festival Junction, Jeep's Blues. (Edited)
Originally one of the best non-live records ever made. Ellington and his producer were so displeased with the sound quality taken from their concert that Ellington arranged to have his orchestra show up in studio and record the album and over dub the sound of the audience. Only years later with cd re-issue was a version of his actual playing on front of an audience released. Still a great set.
