Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 22% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 73.8/100, a mean average of 72.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.4.

Bryan only did 2 videos for this album (both recorded on the same day), that was Hard Rain and the title track. This is not surprising as they are the only two covers where Ferry sounds like he has taken real care over his versions. The rest of the covers sound slapdash and hurried, they sound like exactly what they are: filler.

A splendid debut album from Bryan. I remember being drawn to this album on its release when I was just 17, especially his interpretation of Dylan's 'A Hard Rains A-Gonna Fall'. Almost 50 years later, I have included Bryan's cover version in my top 100 Dylan covers chart.

Bryan Ferry's debut is a brilliant covers album of pop, rock, Motown, and jazz. It's a lot of fun. Best is Ferry's excellent re-imagining of Bob Dylan's, a hard rain's-a-gonna fall, Ferry, like Rod Stewart has always been one of the great interpreters of Dylan songs. Elsewhere, there's The Beatles', you won't see me, the stones', sympathy for the devil, as well as the Beach Boys, don't worry baby, and the jazz standard title track. It's a hoot of an album with Ferry remaining in female character on, it's my party. It's one of the best covers albums ever.
