The Whitlams are back with their first new album in 16 years. Truth be told, The Whitlams never actually went away, regularly performing their wonderful back catalog live around Australia delighting audiences who have practically grown up with the band

‘Sancho’ is a concept album of sorts representing a tribute of sorts to the sudden passing of the bands road manager Greg Weaver in 2019 (Sancho was band leader Tim Freedman’s nickname for Weaver). Notably, the album is bookended by two super interesting tracks. Opener is a wonderful interpretation of Washington’s beautiful 2020 track “Catherine Wheel” and closer “Ballad of Bertie Kidd” is an hilarious re-telling of a pub yarn (yarn is Australian slang for story) about four bumbling crooks , its funny stuff

The Whitlams are a beloved living Australian treasure who sit comfortably beside other living Australian treasures such as Midnight Oil, Paul Kelly and The Hoodoo Gurus
