This might just overtake Ants From Up Here as aoty for me. This is absolutely spectacular in every conceivable way.

I'm still listening to this, so I'll update this review in a little while, but Weyes Blood has been slowly working on her craft over the years and is working herself into the generational pantheon.
A contemporary artist making "classic" songs is rare, so I'm sure the anti-pop elite of this site should have no problem shipping this, and for good reason: she delivered again.
This was my first exposure to Weyes Blood, and I have to say it was a great first impression! This album is beautiful. I feel like a few songs on here sound a bit derivative (like the first track which sounds very similar to John Lennon's "Imagine"), but other than that it's a really good album.

Natalie Mering expands on the general "Father John Misty but Female Vocals" sound, but this time with vocal affectations pulled directly out of Joni Mitchell and Laura Nyro albums added into the mix. Titanic Rising sounded more compelling than this, but And In the Darkness... is really just as competently made. What distinguishes these albums, besides very small details such as how this new album is mixed a lot quieter, is mostly in that this is record came second – doomed to be viewed as a duplication. That said, "Twin Flame" was unique, it expanded Mering's instrumental palette in interesting ways.
I love Weyes Blood and this did not disappoint.
