Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 1% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 81.6/100, a mean average of 81.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 82.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.7.

This is good album but it’s a bit of a slog. This is the problem I consistently run into with Beach House- all of the songs sound basically the same. It’s just difficult to get through this long of an album without a little diversity. It’s a good formula but you can only make the same songs so many times.
This is the grandest release from Beach House. It's their first self-produced album, clocking in at nearly an hour and a half, and comprising 4 discrete chapters. BH make the claim in their press release for it that "Across these songs, many types of style and song structures can be heard." I will agree that this is certainly the case more so than any of their previous releases – some key examples include Sunset and Masquerade, which to anyone giving a stock standard review of this album as one-note totally dispel. However, it hardly qualifies as "many" different sounds. It's a few relatively similar sounds, and then a lot of Beach House signature songs for a very long time. It's really one of those albums where if you love beach house, you just got a double album's worth of gold, if you never cared for Beach House, this isn't going to change your mind one bit.
Perhaps too dreamy and monotonous for me, Beautiful in some aspects
When I stopped comparing this album to Teen Dream and Bloom, I suddenly realized this is the most beautiful album of the year so far.
Favorite Tracks: 1-18.
The production of “Once Twice Melody” is sublime. Synths and guitars are interlaced expertly, creating one of the finest flows in dream pop. The cohesion of sounds does wonders in mitigating the length of the record. At times it feels borderline scary, but the dominant feeling is emotional reflection. Unfortunately, the song writing does nothing to build the musical feeling. Most of the topics are too abstract or vague to be effective. This is stark in comparison to the devastating emotional power found in some of Beach House’s previous works. “Once Twice Melody” is beautifully instrumented but disappointedly expanded.
Listenable enough, but a bit bland, long and derivative.

Incrível álbum! Divertido sem ser simplista! Confiante e sensacional!
First, don't want to ruin this experience for anybody by over hyping it. Take it in in a natural way. So, Beach House is my favorite. I contemplate my favorite album of all time as Teen Dream, Bloom, Depression Cherry, and now Once Twice Melody. This album blows me away with the sonics and sounds they captured on this album. I heard this once so far in full and it fucking blew my mind. I know my tastes of music well and I know what I like. I've been seriously listening to music for about 13 years now and the other 14 I was listening but not as close. This is the best double album of all time, I don't like, I love every single song. Beach House explores different sonics on this one and it even has some sounds that Muse would come up with without Muse's technical abilities. The keyboards are very cool and beautiful sounding. Victoria is an artist and showcases her art on this one in a very creative way. Alex is great too but I don't like acoustic guitar but for some reason, I like it on this album when it has its 3-4 moments.
