Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 73.3/100, a mean average of 73.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 73.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 10.8.

This is so much more a Peter Kember (Sonic Boom) album than it is a Panda Bear one. If you like Spacemen 3, Spiritualized, Stereolab, etc., you'll probably enjoy aspects of this? Even despite these production credentials, I find the whole thing a bit vapid and tame. The goal of the whole project – like a lot of early Animal Collective music, but in this case so much more obviously – is to reach back to The Beach Boys, but it makes no sense why. The Beach Boys are so inimitable that the pursuit reeks of hubris.
Very much a love letter to pop music from the fifties and sixties in the form of a very faithful recreation of the Beach Boys early sound. Has a nice little modern kinda dance music twist to it however which gives a fresh and exciting listening impression overall.

One of the most joyful breezy listens I’ve had the pleasure to experience in recent times. Just the tonic for the recent global affect.
This is the follow-up sound to Person Pitch that was seemingly never going to come. The harmonies and meditative melodic repetition that defined that fantastic album are in abundance again here but this has a lightness of being and a Sonic Boom tinge to it.
