Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 73.0/100, a mean average of 73.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 73.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.8.

“An album on my wishlist: My first thoughts, when I read some comments about this albums and on hearing the first minutes, were, who needs an album which copies (or does a pastiche on) ZZ Top. But I was wrong. There are indeed a lot of resemblances with ZZ Top here (which is a bit strange for a band…”

After the meticulous Mirage record, Meat Puppets returned with a release in late 1987 called Huevos. The title is a southwestern saying, "huevos," Spanish for "egg," meaning that eggs can be used only once, and therefore the recordings here are the first or second studio takes of each track.

The result is the best produced Meat Puppets record of their SST era. Huevos is lively, energetic and their strange and humorous lyrics work best in this carefree and live set-up.

Essential.
