Blur's debut album is a lot better than some people give it credit for. It's got a nice big sound and some great songs. There's no other way, is very good, obviously influenced by the Manchester scene of the early nineties, but the rest of the album is fine too. Bang, sing, and, I'm so high, are also standouts. No, it isn't quite as great as some of their later albums would be but, leisure, is fine.
Great album. Idk why Damon Albarn doesn't like it. The only low points are a few songs where they're trying to do "There's No Other Way" again. Best songs are "She's So High," "There's No Other Way," "Sing," "Repetition," "Wear Me Down," and "Birthday."
Not a typical opinion.
This is the only Blur album I ever liked. A kind of wistfulness to the songs. A bit sloppy but this just adds to the charm. I'll take this over Parklife or Song 2 any day.
There are the obvious standouts - She's So High, Sing, There is no other way, but its the connecting songs which really come to the fore on multiple listens - Bang, Slow Down, Bad Day, Birthday.

Don't think of MLIR, Parklife, Great Escape, the self-titled album, or 13 while listening to Leisure. If you do so, it is fun listening to Blur's debut. Of course compared to their other albums it may sound not great. I like that era and I like listening to this album, it has a good atmosphere.
Best songs: She's so high, There's no other way, Repetition and the brilliant Sing.
There are a handful of tracks on here that are great, but this is a seriously underwhelming start for one of the greatest bands of the 90's.
