Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 22% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.0/100, a mean average of 74.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.4.

I've listened to this over and over. While the vocals are great, and while the lyrics are great, the songwriting is seriously lacking. There's just way too little going on to hold my attention. If there was a stronger mood or aesthetic, I'd probably dig it more. There are some strong moments, but leaves a lot to be desired.
This is a beauty. Like others, I'm surprised more people don't dig it. Much better than a lot of albums higher ranked in '13.
Surprised by the lack of love for this album on this site. This album has really grown on me and I consider it one of the best five albums of the year. Can't understand how this site has it ranked as the 96th best album of the year. It may sound like it was recorded in 1994 but as far as I'm concerned, that's a good thing. If she was from Chicago I might think I was listening to Liz Phair's little sister.
Heard a lot of good things about this album. I was very underwhelmed.
As I started listening to this album, I was thoroughly unimpressed at the beginning. The first half of this album is relatively forgettable, the songs aren’t bad, but they’re nothing too terribly special. So I became discouraged, thinking “Wow, I have no idea what the hype was about". And then I continued listening and I hit the song “Tangled Envisioning" and it all went way up very quickly from there. The second half of this album is really good, very introspective and very well done. Waxahatchee (aka singer/songwriter Katie Crutchfield) is able to really write some good music, and has a sound very similar to a more modern Liz Phair. Like I said, the first half is nothing particularly special, but the second half is very special, so it evens out to a pretty good album.
When I listen to an album, I want something to actually happen. Nothing is happening here. All I hear is mid-tempo indie.
This album is getting significant critical acclaim. I enjoyed three or four tracks but the rest just doesn't resonate with me.
