Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 69.3/100, a mean average of 67.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 67.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 22.6.

Interesting arrangements, and it rocks in places, but oy, those lyrics. So annoying, They tank the album.
K was a staple of my teen years. This one's so bad, while calling back so often to K, that it has me questioning my youth, my taste, my personality, and my hearing. 1996 is coming back.

I had some unspoken internal fears that Kula Shaker had devolved into some form of self-parody after K2.0 (Really? You're going to name the album that? Okay...) and, more alarmingly, 1st Congregational Church of Eternal Love and Free Hugs (which I really didn't like very much at all). Fortunately, those fears can be cast aside with the release of Natural Magick, an excellent release that captures the old magic while simultaneously feeling into the corners for sounds to refresh the Kula formula.
The first handful of songs are most effective in this regard, particularly Waves and Indian Record Player, which both sound like classic KS songs, while Chura Liya and Whistle and I Will Come hint at different world music styles. Don't forget about Idontwannapaymytaxes/F-Bombs; it just feels really good and suggests almost a jam-band-like willingness to experiment by vamping on a theme while jamming.
Natural Magick: Perhaps the leading contender for my album of the year a couple of months into 2024.
