Zane Beck is the guy who invented knee levers for pedal-steel guitars. That might not sound like such a big deal, but trust me, it is. Apparently he didn't record much, so this might be his only album, and in fact, the only document of his phenomenal skill as a player. So while it's easy to dismiss this as just another promotional record for a musical instrument manufacturer, trying to prove that the New ZB Student Model was at least marginally better than the Old ZB Student Model and significantly better than the dusty, mouldering, ancient ZB Student Model, it's maybe not so easy to design and build your own knee levers. That's why you need Zane Beck. If you're playing your student-model pedal-steel guitar and your legs start to wobble around with nothing to do, looking like you don't even need them to be attached to your body, Zane Beck is there. He's got your back. (Also, your knees.)
